THE COMPLIANCE GUIDE
Know what’s needed for ballast water compliance, what the rules are and how they work.
Alfa Laval PureBallast 3 explored
Alfa Laval PureBallast 3 is effective for all aspects of ballast water treatment, from biological disinfection performance to footprint and power management. Its inline construction and flexible design suit almost all vessels. Single systems handle ballast water flows of 32-3000 m3/h, while multiple systems can be used for even larger capacities.
Treatment technology
Alfa Laval PureBallast 3 uses an enhanced form of UV treatment. It performs without the addition of salt or chemicals, even when operating in fresh water.
Filtration
The filter stage is used to remove any larger organisms and particles prior to biological disinfection. This improves the quality of water for treatment, especially when operating in cloudy coastal waters and fresh water.
Retrofit solutions
The compactness & flexibility of PureBallast 3 Compact Flex simplifies retrofitting. We'll shape a retrofit solution to fit your space, budget and requirements.
Expert Support
Besides securing parts and performing maintenance, Alfa Laval service engineers can train your crew, troubleshoot complex issues or evaluate your equipment and make expert recommendations.

Adapting to bulker flow needs
Bulk carriers typically load cargo at twice the unloading rate, so deballasting occurs at twice the ballasting speed. The PureBallast 3 bulker-fit setup addresses this by adjusting reactor and filtration capacities for varying flows, reducing OPEX, the system footprint, and significant CAPEX.
Booster pump for PureBallast 3 Ex
Alfa Laval and Framo have developed a booster pump unit (BPU) to provide extra pumping head for PureBallast 3 Ex in deckhouse installations. This ensures the system meets its pressure needs without modifying the existing ballast pumping system, preserving its efficiency and the vessel’s offloading rates.
